PROTON X70

Proton X70 There are four variants on offer – Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Premium 2WD and Premium X 2WD. The equipment is largely the same as on the CBU version, aside from the aforementioned new items. PROTON X50

The X50 is built on Geely’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) and as such features MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. Proton claims that the car features a total of 406 unique parts compared to the Binyue, as a result of the switch to right-hand drive.

Six colours are offered, only three of which are available for the Standard model – Snow White, Armour Silver and Ocean Blue. The Executive variant can also be had in Jet Grey and the Citric Orange you see here, while buyers of the Premium and Flagship can also specify their cars in Passion Red, a solid vermilion hue. As I said earlier, the Flagship comes only in the two-tone colour scheme.

Proton is also providing two optional dealer-installed accessory packs at launch, both of which come with a powered tailgate. The RM3,500 Urban package also includes a built-in Touch ‘n Go reader, magnetic sunshades and coil mats, while the RM3,300 Utility package instead incorporates PVC mats, a boot tray and side sill scuff plates instead.

Here’s the variant breakdown in detail.

An improved CVT – which has been worked on to improve response and fuel efficiency, combining its learnings with Geely’s – is fitted across the range, with the Standard model also getting the option of a five-speed manual gearbox. Changes have also been made to enhance braking performance, improve build quality and reduce noise, vibration and harshness.
